Discovering the Path to Cannabis Education
At Pharmtrue, we’re driven by a commitment to excellence in cannabis education, particularly within the pharmacy community in New Mexico. This blog offers a glimpse into our journey towards becoming trusted educators and advocates in the cannabis as well as pharmacy spheres.
The Need for Cannabis Knowledge in Pharmacy
With cannabis legal in New Mexico and other states, it’s crucial for pharmacists to be well-informed. Understanding cannabis as a treatment option is particularly vital. This led us to offer Continuing Education Credits (CECs) on a Cannabis Crash Course for Pharmacists at the New Mexico Pharmacist Association Virtual Convention on June 26, 2021.
The Early Days: Laying the Foundation for Cannabis Education in Pharmacy
Our journey began in 2019, the founding year of Pharmtrue. We focused on creating educational content on cannabis, covering topics such as drug interactions, sourcing, metabolism, and other research areas including the vaping epidemic.
Advocacy and Leadership in Cannabis Education
Our team’s overall commitment to cannabis education is evident through various initiatives. Notably, our involvement in promoting cannabis education to the pharmacy industry and healthcare providers. This includes participating in podcasts and working with renowned cannabis medical providers.
The Mission: Changing Perceptions, Growing Knowledge
We’ve always prioritized growing our hemp and Pharmacist Formulated CBD brand. However, the broader vision unites cannabis education and advocacy, starting with pharmacy, we aim to change perceptions and inform potential patients and medical providers.
Engaging the Next Generation of Pharmacists
Our team, alumni of the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy, had the privilege of speaking at the UNM College of Pharmacy’s National Non-Traditional Pathways Symposium. This event marked the beginning of Pharmtrue’s Cannabis Crash Course for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. Altogether a significant step toward cannabis education of pharmacy students nationwide.
Expanding Our Educational Reach
Our path involved building wholesale CBD accounts for independent pharmacies, following the growing interest in cannabis education. This demand led to the development of the Cannabis Crash Course for Pharmacists and Technicians, first presented at the New Mexico Pharmacist Association Virtual Convention.
The Road Ahead
In summary, this journey is just the beginning. We’re still growing our educational outreach, including presentations at national conventions. Our commitment to cannabis education is markedly unwavering, and we’re excited about the future of cannabis in pharmacy.
